WDMA Statement on Trump Administration’s Reinstatement of 10% Tariff on Canadian Aluminum

Posted By Window and Door Manufacturers Association, Friday, August 7, 2020
[Washington, D.C.] Today, the Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) released the following statement regarding the official announcement from the White House to reinstate a 10% tariff on non-alloyed unwrought aluminum from Canada, effective August 16:

“With so much uncertainty in the domestic economy, this decision to re-impose tariffs on Canadian aluminum is highly misguided,” said WDMA President & CEO Michael O’Brien. “The COVID pandemic has created severe economic distortions for manufacturers and imposing a tariff will simply increase the cost of a vital material for manufacturing and construction. Furthermore, we are concerned that this action will undermine the work accomplished by the USMCA’s recent implementation, in addition to harming our regional trading relationships. The North American market is a critical sector for window, door and skylight manufacturing and we urge the Administration to reconsider this decision.”
