WDMA's History:

The Association had its origin in 1927 with the formation of the National Door Manufacturers Association.

In 1949, it changed its name to the National Woodwork Manufacturers Association to be more representative of the diversity of products made by its members.

In 1945, the Association created a separate entity -- Ponderosa Pine Woodwork -- to carry out its promotional activities. This promotional arm was consolidated into NWMA in 1975.

In 1985, the name was changed to the National Wood Window & Door Association to provide an even better awareness of the products manufactured by its members. In 1998 the name was changed again to The Window and Door Manufacturers Association reflecting the increasing diversity of manufacturing materials.

The Window & Door Manufacturers Association is comprised of the country's leading producers of sash, frames, window units, skylights, flush doors, stile and rail doors, and sliding and swinging patio door units. Each of these product groups pursue their individual goals through separate divisions.

The Window Division represents producers of sash and frames, window units and sliding patio doors.

The Door Division represents producers of panel doors, louver doors, combination doors, swinging patio doors, entryway systems, hollow core and solid core flush doors.

In addition, a Council of Supplier Members represents the producers of glass, lumber, hardware, sealants, preservatives, weatherstripping, extrusions, and the numerous other materials required to manufacture the industry's products.

Through their membership in WDMA, participating companies demonstrate their commitment to high standards of design and construction so that end users receive the beauty, ease of operation, energy-saving performance, and ease of maintenance they expect from quality-made windows and doors.
