WDMA Applauds EPA for Reforming "Sue and Settle" Procedures

Posted By Nicolette Strobing, Wednesday, October 18, 2017
[Washington, DC] -  The Window & Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) is applauding Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt for a directive making needed reforms to the way EPA enters into settlement agreements.  Commonly known as "sue and settle," the process allowed the agency and the party that filed the legal challenge to agree in principle on the terms of a consent decree or settlement before the public had the opportunity to review the terms of the agreement.  This was process that was used in 2010 that led to the removal of the "opt-out" provision of the Lead: Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule (RRP).  WDMA strongly opposed its removal.
